'What is your favorite part of being a teacher?'
I love being a teacher, but especially in those joyous moments when I am sharing the subject I love, Japanese, and the students are understanding or seeing gains in their understanding. When the hands are going up like popcorn, and feet are simultaneously tapping as they can barely wait to be called on, there is an energy in the room then of ‘We got it and look at us go!’ In those moments, teaching is fire and magic! The class, myself included, are in a learning process together-and that’s my favorite thing-every day to try to duplicate that feeling of inclusion, and fun, and fire!
